Travelocity Launches Green Directory

It's not the first and it's certainly not the last... it's another green travel directory. This one has legs, however, thanks to the fact that with it comes all of Travelocity's useful traveler reviews.

The Travelocity Green Directory touts the goal of cutting out the greenwash. All of the hotels and destinations featured, according to the site, are considered to be "legitimately working towards long-term sustainability." Currently, the microsite lists more than 200 travel suppliers, boasting green features like carbon neutrality, local conservation involvement, and organic dining. (Also featured are Rainforest Alliance and Energy Star certified properties.)

Partnered with the Global Partnership for Sustainable Tourism Criteria (GSTC), the travel site plans to incorporate the GSTC rating system as it is implemented in the future.

Last year, about this time, Travelocity was talking green too. It's nice to see that a year later, the gears have set in motion.

Yet unfortunately Travelocity and the rest of the big online players have long way to go, surprisingly outmatched by the underdogs like wholetravel.com and rezhub.com.

Just the effort involved in FINDING Travelocity's green directory is a chore in itself. The big online stores need to make the options more readily accessible to their customers.

True. I'm a fan of RezHub myself.
