Disney gets an eco makeover in 2009

Things are getting greener in the place where dreams come true.

According to The Walt Disney Company, 2009 marks the year where Mickey's home base will roll out a landmark set of strategic eco goals that includes reducing emissions, waste, electricity and fuel use, and its impact on water and ecosystems over the next 3 to 5 years.

Debuted in Disney's 2008 Corporate Responsibility Report, the eco policy continues to inspire action in a variety of ways--for both visitors and employees.

Long-term environmental goals highlighted in the report include:
  • Zero waste
  • Zero net direct greenhouse gas emissions from fuels
  • Reduce indirect greenhouse gas emissions from electricity consumption
  • Net positive impact on ecosystems
  • Minimize water use
  • Minimize product footprint
  • Inform, empower and activate positive action for the environment
I couldn't be happier with this fresh from the Magical Kingdom news. Just over a year ago I made the jaunt to Disney World and was blown away (again) by the vast number of daily tourists. Operating over 34,000 hotel rooms in 11 global theme parks, that's a nice size audience to spread the word.
