Emerald Monkey Resort to Donate to UNICEF

Not familiar with the Emerald Monkey? That's probably because it hasn't opened yet, but the sustainable luxury community is making news, having recently announced that a proceed of their sales will be donated to UNICEF.

Conveniently tucked on 80 acres of volcanic Caribbean land, the first phase of the "carbon neutral luxury resort" Emerald Monkey boasts 76 handcrafted Balinese villas that will be stuffed to the brim with five-star indulgences. Also on the property are two saltwater pools, a spa, beaches, hiking trails and a meditation temple. The resort, expected to open in the fall of 2010, will be powered by hydro-electricity.

Kimberly DeLape, CEO and co-founder of the resort, says, "Having earmarked the Bocas Del Toro region to have 16,500 children immunized through UNICEF is just the beginning of these efforts. We plan on extending our commitment to our philanthropic efforts to the local villages by drilling water wells and educating the indigenous Indians to plant and grow their own fruits and vegetables to nourish their families as well as learn to commercialize their crops for income."

I write you as a concerned frequent visitor of Bocas del Toro. I am concerned regarding your association with the Emerald Monkey project and its backers Six Diamond Resorts, Frank Delape and Richard Kiibler. They have shown a history of unethical behavior. Their project will be a dissaster for the community surrounding Bocas. For more information about their business practices check out this website: www.bocasunidos.com I urge you to discontinue any and all associations with this group.
