Here's some more tips for fitting all into one carry on.. I love to travel light, too :)

-When you wrap your lighter clothing items in thin "dry cleaner's plastic" and then weigh them down with your hands, pushing out all the air..you can save major space. (saving any old plastic for this purpose is a great way to re-use)

-Take your heaviest clothing items (jeans, jackets) arrange like with like, and then- sit on them.

Yes, I know it's an odd trick. But, it makes a huge difference. You can weigh them down with something heavy like an old textbook instead.

-Do the same for towels and you'll see a dramatic difference in the height immediately. (Jeans and jackets take the longest to compact down)

-Instead of placing toothbrush and toothpaste in containers just wrap them in light cloth or leftover plastic. Then, add them to the very sides of your bag/suitcase when it's full. (or, use a side pocket if your carry on has one)

-When all else is packed, try maneuvering shoes into corners of your suitcase or look for another natural fit (Usually in the slits between different groups of items). Apply some pressure.

-Reduce items by finding multiple purposes; undershirts can be worn to bed before they’re used to layer. The same is true for long johns/ thermals.

-Reduce or eliminate towels by deciding to use those available on your trip.

-Plan outfits ahead. Decide the minimal amount of items you can take while still having something you like to wear each day.

-Pack socks, underwear and bra in the very sides of your carry on (after all else is in) or in the zip provided.

..Make sure the air is squeezed out nice and tight and then just lay them in there or fold if you see a need (like with like).
